Drum ‘n’ bass pioneer DJ Marky played a short set at Wink in Mumbai last week. The gig was opened by Mumbai act Bay Beat Collective, and was preceded by a ‘workshop’ that ended up being more of an informal Q&A session due to flight delays and general exhaustion (Marky flew Sau Paulo->London->Dubai->New Delhi->Mumbai, and then arrived directly at Wink). Turnout for the event was pretty decent considering that it wasn’t especially well promoted, and given that about 50 pre-teen princesses were turned away from the venue for not having valid proof of age.
The Brazilian DJ was in India to promote the Red Bull Music Academy, an immersive music education program held every year at a different ‘musical metropolis’. Next year’s edition will be in Tokyo in the fall of 2011. Applications are free, and open up February 1, 2011. More details can be found here.
