Mainstream publications in India are often biased, patronising and gramatically incorrect in their coverage of the Indian indie scene. PR companies aren’t much better either. We Press Charges.
Press release: ArtistAloud’s says no piracy , when will u ?
PR agency: ActiMedia
The road to hell is paved with good intentions and crappy press releases. Leading the crusade against music piracy might seem like a worthwhile and entirely noble cause, but using drivel for promotion is almost always a terrible idea. This particularly delicious press release was almost shouting for it. So. We Press Charges.
When will we start paying for what we listen?
This is undoubtedly the most poignant question to come out of India since ‘How can she slap?’
“Did we know that India is the second largest consumer of music globally? But ironically it is 6th when it comes to music value i.e. 0.6 % of world sales.”
Yes, isn’t it ironic? Not unlike rain on your wedding day, or a free ride when you’re already late. Or something super-cereal-ironic, like a fly in your chardonnay. Which is to say, no, it really isn’t. It’s just pretty terrible.
“The Indian Music industry has a vast potential to witness a significant growth. The potential can be better understood from its current size of US$ 182.9 million in 2010, up from US$ 160.9 million in 2008. The industry is expected to grow CAGR of 16 per cent over 2010-14 to reach US$ 379.1 million.”
Low-functioning PR types can’t realistically be expected to check figures that are hastily cut-pasted from other crappy press releases. Lucky for you, boys and girls, I am no stranger to the practice of fudging numbers serious market research. The CAGR for the figures presented is either 20% or the period is 2010-2015.
“Music Piracy is a fast-growing, worldwide problem that cost billions in lost revenue. It also marks a dent on the brand integrity of the artists as their content is freely available for downloads all over the internet.”
Wow. ‘A dent on the brand integrity of the artists.’ Take it away, Jean-Luc.
“ArtistAloud.com is determined to fight against the anti-piracy market. The artists who release their music on the website are protected against the copyright infringement.“
Let’s all band together and FIGHT AGAINST anti-piracy. Arrrr, mateys! Death to those landlubbing, anti-pirate scallywags!
The website promotes downloads at the never before packages, for example Paisa Vassol campaign. The campaign was an answer to the ever growing piracy industry by providing downloads for as low as Rs20 for 4 songs for one’s favorite singer.
Dear ArtistAloud.com, you know what wasn’t Paisa Vassol? Hiring this PR agency.
PS: For those keeping score at home, we’re back to hating pirates and loving anti-pirates.
