Watch: ‘Ganga’ – Mrigya

New Delhi fusion act Mrigya are out with a pretty unimaginative, vector swirlie video for their song ‘Ganga’, off the album The Composition of World Harmony.

New Delhi fusion band (yeah, those still exist) Mrigya has just released a video for their song ‘Ganga’, off the album The Composition of World Harmony. The song is based on the raga ‘Jog’, and is apparently the song that “started it all”. The band says about the song:

The song is symbolic of the new India. A confluence of the traditional with the new age.

The video is pretty unimaginative, with shots of band members and the occasional vector swirls; for VFX there are shots of individual band members on magazine covers, with cheesy, overused blurbs that they’re particularly fond of (“An Indian Band in a Global Village. A sound that rises above nationality and language”).

The song itself is fairly decent fusion that would probably work better live; with its violin and guitar-driven melody and tabla-bass jams, it leaves a lot of room for spontaneity. Each member of the seven piece band features in the video, especially the violinist and the earnest guitarist with disco-lit shots of the fretboard.
