We announced on Monday that Kolkata post punk quartet The Supersonics had decided to call it quits. The four-year-old act was undoubtedly one of the top new Indian bands of the last decade, releasing one excellent album and performing some of the best gigs by an Indian band we’ve checked out.
The band made a formal-ish announcement of the split via their Facebook group on Thursday. The heartfelt note cites disagreements within the band about their musical direction as the primary reason of the breakup.

to all the great people out there!
we started out 4-5 years back to create music. which we did. and we are mighty proud of the legacy we leave behind today as we decide to call it a day and part ways to do our own things. the band does not exist anymore. it has been one hell of a ride. we made great friends along the way. had tons of fun making songs that we think are fantastic. each member is very proud of what we have achieved as a band and individually as people. we played at practically every venue in the land as well as in big music festivals in foreign shores. the most important thing for us was to get the music out to as many people possible. to an extent we have done that.
however, as the old saying goes- familiarity breeds contempt, there were many trying times as well. despite our efforts to keep the band going we faced a losing battle. there were disagreements within ourselves. we all had different ideas of where we wanted to see the band in the future. these problems we could not neglect if we wanted to play together. it became increasingly difficult to carry on with different ideals and the only option was to shut shop. all of us are very happy with the decision, after all peace of mind is more important than anything. especially while creating and honing your craft.
on that note we would like to thank all the people who have helped us come so far. there are far too many people to name individually but knowing us, you know who you are! thanks to all our fans who have supported us through thick and thin. we have had the most amazing joyride with you guys backing us.
we are all parting ways to do our own thing so maybe in the future you will hear from us with our own projects. hope you will support us with that too!! we will put up some links for some of the tunes we recorded as a band for downloading for our good, good people. feel free to pirate it for what it is worth!
that’s all for now and for sometime too
take care! see you round!
with all the love in the world. signing off…
