Watch: Vampire Weekend Cover Bruce Springsteen

The New York City quartet bring a stripped down version of Bruce Springsteen’s 1985 ballad ‘I’m Goin’ Down’ to a radio show in Seattle. Check out the intimate performance inside.

When not getting sued for $2 million by Ann Kirsten Kennis, Vampire Weekend keep themselves busy playing some of the biggest festivals in the world, and trying their hand at covering the Boss. The quartet from New York City have added Bruce Springsteen’s 1985 hit ‘I’m Goin’ Down’ to their recent setlists.

The band performed the song recently at an acoustic session for Seattle radio session 107.7′s show The End. The acoustic version is a stripped down cover of Springsteen’s ballad, and takes away much of the bombast (and the sax solo) of the track. Ezra Koenig’s moody delivery, while reflecting none of Springsteen’s heartache, is pleasantly mellow and changes the tone of the song from earnest longing to life-goes-on.

Check out the cover below.

This is how we like it though.

Florence + The Machine and Kid Harpoon performed a similar acoustic cover of the song in 2008.
