Electro-rock duo Phantogram make laid back, straightforward beat music that’s a refreshing break from the clattery din of New York’s animal projecting gunk. Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel (who were originally called Charlie Everywhere) make music in a barn they call Harmony Lodge. This shed is equipped with everything from samplers, tapes, records, synths, drums, to both percussive and stringed instruments. Signed to Barsuk Records (the same label that brought us Death Cab For Cutie and Ra Ra Riot), the band is gearing up to release its debut album Eyelid Movies (out Feb 9). Think uncomplicated Portishead songs written by Serge Gainsbourg.

‘When I’m Small’ is a track off the new LP. It’s downtempo, yet strangely uplifting in a way that’s immediately inclusive. MGMT fans will find much to love here. We dig it.
