Swedish power metal act HammerFall will headline IIT Madras’ annual cultural festival Saarang this month. The quintet from Gothenburg will play Saarang’s ‘Rock Show’ on Monday, Jan 25.

IIT Madras’ continued fascination with Swedish metal is unsurprising. Last year the college brought down death metal act Opeth to perform at the festival. The HammerFall announcement comes after IIT Kharagpur announced that its festival (SpringFest) would be headlined by ageing glam rockers Skid Row. IIT Bombay had British progressive rock act Porcupine Tree headline its festival Mood Indigo (the gig was one of our picks for Best Gig International ’09).

HammerFall released their seventh studio album No Sacrifice, No Victory last year. Check out the video for the single ‘Any Means Necessary’ below.

While the band’s MySpace states “Skid Row is also playing”, we’ll just assume the Scandinavian act mixed up their IITs. Tickets for the gig are priced at Rs 500 and Rs 700 and can be purchased (soon) from here.

UPDATE: Turns out Skid Row is in fact also playing.
