Indian music suffered a great loss today with the untimely demise of Asheem Chakravarty of Indian Ocean. Chakravarty went into a coma on Oct 14 in Doha while on tour with the band and passed away this afternoon.

Indian music suffered a great loss today with the untimely demise of Asheem Chakravarty of Indian Ocean. Chakravarty went into a coma on Oct 14 in Doha while on tour with the band and passed away this afternoon. He was 52 years old.

Asheem played tabla and contributed vocals to Indian Ocean, arguably India’s biggest indie act. In an official statement, the band said

He will be missed by all his fans and all of us in Indian Ocean. We love him and will carry on his legacy through our music, which is his music as well.
