Blackstratblues and Zero played Hard Rock Cafe, Mumbai on Tuesday, Dec 22. 800 fans showed up to welcome the homeboys on their reunion tour. This was by far the most packed we’ve ever seen Hard Rock Cafe, easily overshadowing the last packed gig at the venue - Bhayanak Maut’s album launch earlier this year.
‘Ode To A Sunny Day’ comes from Blackstratblues’ new album The New Album. As protagonist Warren Mendonsa explained, and as the title suggests, the song is a ballad to the sun, the scarcity of which in Auckland “gets a little depressing”.
‘Old Man Sitting On The Back Porch’ features some of the most forgettable verse lyrics (even frontman Rajeev Talwar (pictured) has trouble remembering them) written by the band, but one of Mendonsa’s juiciest licks. This was the second song played by the quartet that evening; an appropriately heavy-duty, red-blooded start to one of the most rollicking gigs of the year.
