Where would Indian indie be without covers? Back playing ‘Mustang Sally’ every August? Oh, wait. Indiecision scours the interweb to find you great (and sucky) covers performed by Indian indie artists during live performances, studio sessions and whenever the urge to bust out ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ hits them. Presenting, Cover Story.
Song: ‘Wonderwall’
Original Artist: Oasis
Cover Artist: Thermal & A Quarter

Bangalore rock act Thermal & A Quarter played one the best gigs we’ve checked out this year at the Blue Frog recently. The band’s set comprised predominantly original material spanning their four album catalogue, with a few choice covers thrown in.

While the band efficiently delivered set staple ‘Roxanne’, they also threw in this rendition of Oasis’ most popular song. Their cover was pretty much a whole new track, as save the lyrics, TAAQ replaced Noel Gallagher’s tune entirely with a lounge-y funk-pop, almost R&B-ish vibe. It was clear though that this rendition was still a work-in-progress with frontman Bruce Lee Mani frequently making off-lyric excursions in the obvious TAAQ jam that we’re sure will soon come together as another ‘Roxanne’-esque doozy.

But for all practical purposes, this is a brand new song. And we dig it.
