Blackstratblues is the solo project of (original) Zero axeman Warren Mendonsa. His debut album Nights In Shining Karma was released in 2007, and made it to our top 25 albums of the 2000s list.
Mendonsa is now gearing up to release his sophomore album, which should be out this month (via download on the Blackstratblues website). The appropriately titled The New Album features eight songs of guitar rock driven by Mendonsa’s trusty black Strat. The album features a lot more vocal work than its predecessor (yes, there is vocal work) and instrumental experimentation including a pakhavaj on the song ‘Newness’.
Some of these songs were previewed at Mendonsa’s recent performance at I-Rock (pictured). The guitar pro will also join his band Zero for their reunion tour this month. Blackstratblues and Scribe play Mithibai college, Mumbai on Dec 16 – contact Parth Pandya for free passes. There may or may not be a surprise at this gig.
