Metal Hammer MagazineApart from being an incredible learning experience for everyone involved in Indian indie music, Unconvention (held over the weekend in Mumbai) also had its share of revelations (apart from the fact that the British Council mens room has an Indian style toilet). At the Metal Block panel on Day One of the event, John Sullivan, MD of Source Productions and a representative of Metal Hammer magazine announced that the monthly UK mag would launch in India in soon. The magazine, UK’s second largest selling rock rag behind Kerrang!, is expected to be in India in 12-18 months.

Sullivan announced, in a discussion that included Scribe frontman Vishwesh calling Sahil Makhija (aka the Demonstealer) “an NGO” for his work in the scene, that the magazine is also speaking with music channel Vh1 and radio stations in the country for possible alliances. He mentioned that they would also hope to host a metal award show in a year. “We think there’s about to be a profitable scene here,” he said.

The magazine will also have a cover compilation CD out soon that features 3-4 prominent Indian metal acts. For a largely-ignored-by-mainstream-press Indian metal scene, this is huge news, and should hopefully get more Indian metal acts international exposure.

More about Metal Hammer’s India plans when we hear them. More from Unconvention soon.
