Advaita and Swarathma played the close of the Nokia Music Connects conference held in Mumbai recently. While the conference had its ups and downs (mostly downs) both bands delivered efficient performances. We were there.
Notes
- We’ve already talked about the conference itself (a lot), so we’ll focus on the sets here.
- Advaita are an efficient bunch. They played tunes from their debut album Grounded In Space.
- We’d caught them last year at the Blue Frog in Mumbai and remarked – “They look like they’re in the first year of college, nervous because girls don’t quite understand them yet and really earnest.”
- This apprehension still troubles them. They do their business with skill, but there’s no stage act whatsoever. It’s like listening to a CD.
- Rabbi Shergill almost forced Swarathma to play with him. He said he wanted to please his label, but it was obvious he just wanted to be on camera for a bit.
- Swarathma obliged. The result wasn’t half bad.
- Swarathma then did their thing; the whole shebang – ghodi, ‘Ee Bhoomi’ lyrics, et al. It’s hard not to be taken by their enthusiasm, but we’ve seen this. A lot.
- Repeat viewing offers little to the Swarathma regular. Apart from the general fun-ness of their act.
- They did debut a new tune (for which they wore Nehru caps – see pics) however.
We took a bunch of pictures at the gig. Here are a few.
