Indiecision’s picks of the best gigs to attend this week in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Loud and sensitive.
Mumbai
Mumbai’s packing a decent is lineup this week courtesy the west zone of Pub Rock Fest.
Electro-rock act Medusa plays the Blue Frog on Wednesday, Sep 9. The band played Not Just Jazz By The Bay last week, but it’s been a while since they hit the Blue Frog, and with the venue’s better sound, we’re looking forward to previewing some new material.
The first of the Pub Rock Fest gigs happens on Thursday, Sep 10 as Channel V Launchpad finalists The Circus play Firangi Paani in Andheri. This will be the first time the band is performing in the city since the Launchpad elimination gigs.
Jam collective Something Relevant and electronica experts Jalebee Cartel play the Blue Frog on Friday, Sep 11 and what is undoubtedly going to be a very crowded stage. We caught Something Relevant last week at the Rush Of Blood concert at Carter Road, Bandra and were disapppointed that the band chose to perform a covers-only set. Hopefully we’ll sample some original music at the Blue Frog on Friday.
New Delhi
As Pub Rock Fest kicks off in Mumbai, it comes to a close in the capital. On Wednesday, Sep 9, Undying Inc, Tearcube and IIIrd Sovereign hit Chicane. Undying Inc is fast becoming Delhi’s metal it band, and this is a chance to verify whether that claim has substance.
BASSFoundation hits Shalom on Friday, Sep 11 as Ed Anderson (aka DJ Praxis) plays his final gig in the country before heading back to the UK. Here’s an interview with BASSFoundation.
DJ Batuta hits The Living Room Cafe on Saturday, Sep 12 for the venue’s Disco 31 themed nights. If you’re looking to dance on Saturday night, head here.
Bangalore
Bangalore’s fast regaining much of that great live music rep it had a few years ago courtesy regular gigs at a bunch of venues.
The most recent of these is Kyra, where on Wednesday, Sep 9, percussion guru Trilok Gurtu will play a set. Gurtu played a well received couple of Mumbai gigs and if you haven’t caught him before, here’s a good chance.
Folk-rock homeboys Swarathma play two gigs in the city this week. The first is at Opus on Friday, Sep 11 and the next at Kyra on Saturday for Bangalore’s Twestival. They promise new material, Nehru topis and something for “all you Bob Marley fans”.
Kochi rock act Motherjane hits Opus on Saturday, Sep 12. The band recently played the Java Rockin’ Land festival in Indonesia where they shared the stage with Mr Big (who will tour India later this year).
These are our gig picks for the week folks. Have one.
