Indiecision’s picks of the best gigs to attend this week in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Tough and fun.
Mumbai
Mumbai’s packing some great gigs this week.
Head to the Blue Frog on Tuesday, Aug 18 for singer-songwriter Nikhil D’Souza. We caught the Mumbai crooner at the Blue Frog a few months ago and thought that his Damien Rice-David Gray sensibilities were perhaps a little too pronounced. Still, his act has a lot of potential, ably displayed in a new music video for his song ‘Perfect Life’.
Lou Majaw finally comes back to Mumbai. Wednesday will see Majaw’s short-shorts and the rest of Great Society play the Blue Frog as part of a tribute to Bob Dylan. It’s been over a year since the ageing rocker hit Lower Parel, and if his last visit was anything to go by, Wednesday should be a lot of fun.
Ex-Viva singer Anushka Manchanda and her newly named project Shkabang play the Blue Frog on Thursday, Aug 20. We’ve caught her without that moniker earlier this year at the Baajaa Gaajaa announcement press conference. Here’s what her music is like.
New Delhi
The capital gets a healthy shot of much needed regular gig-age courtesy The Living Room Cafe. The venue has a host of events lined up every week including Rap Warz this Saturday, Aug 22; a hip hop battle pitting east coast vs west coast, old school style. Check out our sidebar for complete listings.
Kolkata rock act The Supersonics kick off their album launch tour, hitting Hard Rock Cafe on Thursday, Aug 20. Maby Baking can be purchased at the venue for just Rs 125. The band will also hit Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore as part of the Rolling Stone DETOUR series. We checked out their album launch gig at The Big Ben in Kolkata. Tour dates.
Shaa’ir + Func head northward on the way to their stop at The Ladakh Confluence with a gig at Shalom on Saturday, Aug 22. Watch P-Man take on a cover of their new song ‘Love Love Love’.
Bangalore
Shillong blues-rock act Soulmate busy themselves up down south with a gig at Opus on Thursday, Aug 20. Soulmate will also play The Ladakh Confluence. We caught them earlier this year when they played a couple of dates in Mumbai.
Delhi alternative act Half Step Down continue their album launch tour with a gig at B Flat on Friday, Aug 21. Overtures in Outerspace is their debut release and the band is supporting it with a bunch of dates across the country.
Homeboys Galeej Gurus play Firangi Paani on Saturday, Aug 22. The band recently recorded a video for the song ‘Hum Honge Kaamyaab’ as part of a Flying Machine Independence Day branding initiative.
These are our gig picks for the week folks. Have one.
