Resonate Music AwardFollowing in the footsteps of the Toto Funds the Arts Music Award is the Resonate Music Award. Initiated by Deepak Rao of Bangalore metal act Shrapnel, the award aims to support local talent in the city by means of a “recorded, mixed and mastered album, with the master handed over to you.”

Says Rao, who will be funding the award out of personal funds

I’d like to support other bands to do the same (self release a self-financed album). I know from first hand experience, that a helping hand goes a long way in the path to success.

Interested bands need to submit their entries by Aug 20. The jury includes Rao, Chris Avinash (entertainment director, Kyra), Nolan Lewis (Kryptos) and Sahil Makhija (aka The Demonstealer, Demonic Resurrection, Workshop).

The award seems like an honest effort, making no bones about the fact that the restrictions allow only Bangalore bands to apply. Plus

Entries will be judged based on the quality of original compositions and the band’s vision on marketing the finished album.

The second bit of that statement leads us to believe that, hopefully, the act that wins the scholarship intends to pursue music as not just a break from a day job.

We’ll keep you posted with updates as we hear them. Till then, follow the awards on Twitter. While you’re at it, follow us too!
