Hindi rock quintet Prayag has been around since 2005, playing the regular college festival/competition circuit as most of our country’s young rock upstarts. This circuit has been the breeding ground for scores of Iron Maiden-inspired, black t-shirt attired bands that have guitarists with Ibanez skill and the songwriting talent of mindless drones living in a cesspool of suburban, engineering college hostels listening to ’80s hard rock like it was new.

Prayag tries to be different in that they sing in Hindi and have 5-10 second drum and bass interludes (on ‘Raaste’) in what is essentially a desi Iron Maiden tribute replete with layered guitars and fancy riff work. Programmed drums aside, this seven minute homage plays to a predictable structure almost entirely mimicking the Maiden template right down to the delivery of the vocals.
