The Rattle & Hum Music Society of Nagaland celebrated World Music Day (June 21) with a concert at St Andrews auditorium at Bandra. Seven artists performed including Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Shillong blues-rock act Soulmate. We were there, along with some kids.
Notes
- The biggest find of the evening was Naga-folk trio Cultural Vibrants who nailed a three part harmony in the one song they performed. Somebody bring them back for a full gig.
- The three opening acts – Cultural Vibrants, Asin, and The Tetseos – sadly performed only one song. We’d have had them perform more material, over the extended stage time given to some of the latter acts *cough*Hipnot…*cough*
- Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt’s set was cut short by a broken string on his Mohan Veena. His tabla player was not impressed (see pic).
- Eximious’ brand of Staind/Seether/Trapt inspired hard rock was efficiently executed but largely unimaginative.
- Hipnotribe’s reggae-funk inspired pop rock gets repetitious and wears thin on the rewatch.
- We <3 Tipriti Soulmate.
We took a bunch of pictures at the gig. Here are a few.
