The Raghu Dixit Project has been confirmed to play Lovebox 2009, one of UK’s top music festivals. The band heads to London mid-this month to collect their July 19 slot; becoming the only Indian act to play at the festival this year. Other international acts playing at the festival include N.E.R.D., Simian Mobile Disco, Diplo, Doves and Ladyhawke. Check out the full lineup.
We spoke to Gaurav Vaz (bass) about what he was looking forward to most at Lovebox
I’m looking to see how the Brits respond to our lungis and the music itself, and hopefully make the funky lungi look the in thing in the UK this time round!
The band may also play a few club gigs in the UK. If you own/know someone who owns a club in the UK and would like to see The Raghu Dixit Project play in your venue, get in touch with them here.
This UK date is a pretty big date for the band, and for Indian indie. As one of the first non-government supported, non-cultural council backed international gigs, it signals the appreciation of Indian indie in a saturated music market. With other acts also slated to head to foreign shores to play proper gigs, things are definitely looking up for Indian indie acts proactive enough to beat our devastating ebb and flow.
