Indiecision’s picks of the best gigs to attend this week in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Sweet and succulent.
Mumbai
Mumbai’s pimping another great gig lineup this week. Head to the Blue Frog on Wednesday to catch Something Relevant perform as part of the now regular MySpace nights at the venue. The Mumbai collective will preview material from their coming album Feels Good To Be Live.
Indo-Brit bass-tronica hits the Blue Frog over the weekend as Shri and DJ Badmarsh take up a three night residency there. The duo have collaborated live on several occasions (and in studio on two albums). It should be a fun gig and we recommend checking them out on Thursday night – a smaller crowd, and Rs 300 entry after 9pm (as opposed to Rs 500 over the weekend).
Electronica act Bay Beat Collective play Zenzi Mills on Friday, June 19 as part of their BassMental tour. The project of Kris Correya, Raffael Kably and Sohail Arora, BBC perform left-of-the-middle drum & bass. Check them out on MySpace.
The St Andrews auditorium in Bandra plays host to The Hand Shake Concert on Sunday (World Music Day), June 21. The concert, jointly hosted by the Rattle & Hum Music Society of Nagaland and Rolling Stone magazine, will feature among others, Hipnotribe, Soulmate and Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. With a lineup like that, and no entry charge, we can’t think of better ways to close your weekend in Mumbai.
New Delhi
The capital’s quiet run continues as apart from a few nights of electronica, there aren’t many events to speak of. The biggest gig by far is on Wednesday night at Pure (the new Kuki) with Joseph Sadler aka Grandmaster Flash. Flash released his 11th studio album (The Bridge – Concept Of A Culture) in February and is playing just one date in India, supported by DJ Rummy Sharma.
Bangalore
Catalyst play an unplugged set at Opus on Monday while Tom Chandy and The Jazz Revival play Kyra the same night. Tickets for the Tom Chandy gig are Rs 200 a pop. Here’s some video of Tom Chandy playing live.
Classic rock act Bridges hit Hard Rock Cafe on Thursday. HRC Bangalore holds gigs every Thursday giving Bangalore a much needed additional live music venue.
These are our gig picks for the week folks. Have one.
