Here’s a bit of Indian rock history kids. One of Mumbai’s earliest bands was a ‘beat’ group of four students from Campion school (also alma mater to Indiecision) called The Jets. Formed in the early ’60s, the band played several gigs in hotels and restaurants in Mumbai and across the country covering instrumental material from The Shadows and The Ventures. They played their last concert on Feb 19, 1966.
Over 40 years later, The Jets reunite for a one-night-only performance at the Blue Frog on Mar 7, 2009. It should be fun, and an opportunity to sing ‘Campion Calls’ out loud. In June last year, another ’60s Indian rock band, The Savages, played a reunion gig at NJJBTB.
The Jets comprised Mike Kirby, Malcolm Mazumdar, Suresh Bhojwani and Napoleon Braganza. More about The Jets.
