The Indiecision â??08 is a recap of the year gone by in Indian indie and a recognition of the work of its artists and those involved with the creation and promotion of the music. Over the month of December, your favourite Indian indie blog will feature bests and worsts of all things Indian indie.
Best Video

The Best Video was the best music video released by an artist for a song published in any media (CD, TV, MySpace, etc) in 2008.

Hit ‘More’ to watch all the nominees, and the Best Video ’08.

‘Bunty Aur Mallika Sherwath’, Workshop
Director: Superman
Perhaps it is the fact that this video is so DIY it still has Getty Images watermarks all over it, or the fact that Sherawat is spelt Sherwath, or simply that Joe Mascarenhas gets his well deserverd 15 seconds of fame, it is unlikely that you watched this Workshop video without watching it another time immediately after just to catch all the stuff you missed the first time. If only more Indian bands did this.

‘Tough Cookie’, Jalebee Cartel
Director: Bharat Sikka
A kinetically-paced blend of art, live action, photography, and animation made it hard for us to keep our eyes off the screen every time this video by EDM superstars Jalebee Cartel aired on VH1. Oh, and the beats weren’t bad too!

‘Fix Me’, Ashu
Director: Ashutosh Phatak
Ashutosh Phatak is Blue Frog’s most cost-effective artist, they say. The eccentric video to the very catchy ‘Fix Me’ was made on a budget of exactly zero. Shot by the club owner/composer with the help of a webcam, it showed how you could go a long way with a little technology and a lot of imagination.

‘Nada Nada’, Avial
Director: Anand Surapur
One of the best produced videos of the year, ‘Nada Nada’ features Anandraj Benjamin Paul era Avial rocking out a the Kerela backwaters, replete with headbanging fishermen. If mallu-rock were a video, this would be it. Now if only we understood what they were saying.

‘Summertime Rocks’, Smoke featuring Kailash Kher
Director: Good Morning Films
We rarely get to see Bombay in music videos even though most of them are made here. In this funny animated clip, Smoke (composers Ashutosh Phatak and Dhruv Ghanekar) and singer Kailash Kher pass through familiar landmarks but stay away from cliched representations of the city (neither the Gateway nor VT is in sight!)

And Best Video â??08 is

‘Nada Nada’.
