The Midway State are a four piece pop-rock act from Toronto, Canada. They’ve toured with Theory Of A Deadman, Shiny Toy Guns and Lifehouse amongst others and have recently released their full length debut studio album Holes (Remedy/Interscope). The album was produced at Metalworks Studios (Billy Talent, Our Lady Piece, Prince).
‘Never Again’ is the first track off Holes. Its a simple piano driven melody that builds into an arena-sized chorus. Nathan Ferraro’s vocals are very Aqualung-ish, but the arrangement is more Keane meets U2 with delayed guitar parts to boot. Thankfully, the song doesn’t try too hard to be ‘big’. It’s sufficient in its three and a half minutes of pure pop-rock engagement. This is the stuff that acts like The Fray and Augustana try but get wrong.
