Raghu Dixit, the eponymous frontman of The Raghu Dixit Project, has been keeping himself busy. When not playing in South East Asia or dislocating his shoulder, he’s been making sure Kannada film music sounds folky-licious.
Dixit’s first foray into Kannada film music was in the film Psycho (seriously, there’s a Kannada film called Psycho). Dixit told Radioandmusic
Psycho has six songs and a theme instrumental track; I have tried different genres for each song. While the first song is somewhat an alternative rock song named â??Neene Bekuâ??, the other track, â??Mahadeswaraâ?? is a Kannada folk song with latino chords progression, the other track is a lounge track.
Apart from Psycho Dixit is also working on two other films – Just Maatmaathalli and Superman (seriously, what is it with South Indian film titles).
The Project recently completed a tour of Hong Kong, Russia, Japan and South Korea.
It was a great experience to see Chinese and Japanese audiences jumping to our Indian music. Our music is widely accepted among audiences abroad and it is a good sign. We carried about 500 CDs for our world tour and didnâ??t bring back any!
As part of the British Council Soundpad deal, the four bands that won (Medusa, Advaita, Indigo Children, Swarathma) get to play some shows in the UK. It will be interesting to note the number of CDs they bring back.
