The aftermath of the movie Rock On!! is a trail of devastation, a better world for Indian rock music and inspirational stories of young people who have quit their day jobs and pursued their ‘true’ passion, music. The first of the latter is the story of one Sital Banerjee.
Now Mr Sital Banerjee (aka Esbee) watched the film and “saw his life flash before him in two-and-a-half hours”. In 1989, Banerjee was crowned (I shit you not) the best singer at the finals of the All India Kishore Kumar Memorial Music Competition at Delhiâ??s Siri Fort auditorium. Post that, his musical career took a steep downhill turn. Until he watched Rock On!! that is. The budding musician is now out with an album titled Pehli Mulaqat on Saregama.
In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Esbee said
I have watched Rock On!! many times. I feel it reflects my life. I had a successful corporate 9 to 5 job. Before that I tried to work in the film industry for some 15 to 20 years. But nothing worked out.
So I moved on to search for my bread and butter. But today my family believes in me and wants me to pursue my dream.
I am in Netherlands but I want to return to India for the sake of music. If Pehli Mulaqat does well I will launch a website to promote people like me.
Given a chance I would like to meet Farhan Akhtar and tell him that ‘I am the real rock on guy’.”
The dude must be (given the mathematics of the situation) something like 40 and only now does his family believe in him. Plus, who goes around saying “I am the real rock on guy”? Also, there is a website to promote people like him. It’s called MySpace. Mooching off the PR value of a movie is one thing…
You want to know who the ‘real’ Rock On!! guys are? Head downstairs.
