SanDisk, popularly known to power flash memory cards and nifty impulse-buy MP3 players, are peddling what they think will be the future of the physical form of music. slotMusic is an initiative that puts music (at about $15 an album) on microSD memory cards which can then be played on mobile phones, computers or a $20 Sansa slotMusic Player.
According to Billboard.com
The device carries with it a number of accessories, not the least of which is the ability for artists to create their own, branded slotMusic Player that comes pre-loaded with the participating artist’s album contained on an included 1 GB slotMusic card, and of course can also play music stored on any other slotMusic or microSD memory card as well. Artist-branded devices retail for $35, and are custom designed with the artist’s name and image.
Anyone remember mini discs? Also, have you tried swapping a microSD card from under a cellphone battery? Still Coldplay, Weezer and M.I.A. are among the artists that have signed up.
