Dhruv Ghanekar is a well known figure in the ad industry. The duo he forms with buddy Ashutosh Phatak is the Vishal-Shekhar of the ad music world. Ashu and him also form the band Smoke, further strengthening Ghanekar’s CV which includes part ownership of Blue Frog.
Adding to this impressive list of creds is the score of mainstream Bollywood film Drona. Though Ghanekar has worked on music for films before, this is his first major Bollywood release. In an interview with Planet Radio City he describes his work in Bollywood and music in general.
Some interesting bits from that interview include plans for his solo album release
Yes, my album is coming out this January. I am working on it right now. Itâ??s full of rock and jazz, Western music basically. I havenâ??t titled it yet, but things are looking very good
And this revelation
Ashu and I formed Smoke eight years ago and our first album, Smoke Signals, released this year.
It was only after we performed at the MTV awards last year with Kailash, who sang our song â??Summertime Rocksâ??, that it picked up. We got ourselves a record deal and released the album.
The ‘record deal’ he’s talking about is with his own label, Blue Frog Records.
