Vishal Dadlani is better known for being a Bollywood music producer than for being the lead singer of Pentagram. And though it is true that the band hasn’t been creating the most engaging music of late, it is also true that they are one of the biggest acts in the Indian scene.
Randolph Correia’s no stranger to success in the Indian scene either. The Pentagram guitarist’s latest project Shaa’ir + Func is one of the hottest live acts in the country with their latest album Light Tribe getting some rave reviews. Somehow though, it isn’t surprising that he’s taken the plunge into Bollywood. Correia is the music director for the film Saas, Bahu aur Sensex. In an interview with Planet Radio City he defends himself saying
Iâ??m not getting into Bollywood as such. I am from Pentagram and I also have my own band, Shaair nâ?? Func. Iâ??m not going into any particular direction, especially not Bollywood. Actually, I canâ??t really stand Bollywood. But if youâ??re talking about Saas Bahu and Sensex, it isnâ??t really a conventional Bollywood film, thatâ??s why Iâ??m doing it. I often get called to make music for unconventional movies because my music is not conventional. Thatâ??s how I got involved with Saas Bahu and Sensex.
Offering two contradicting statements back to back doesn’t help his cause. Although the question must be asked – does being an indie Indian musician assocated with Bollywood make one uncool?
