Pop quiz. What connects Bappi Lahiri, M.I.A. and Adam Sandler? The words ‘Jimmy, Jimmy, aaja aaja’. When Bappida scored the music to the cult film Disco Dancer, he must’ve known that the world would one day take notice. And sure enough, about a decade later, samples were being used in dance tunes and club hits.

Bappi’s been fine with it till now, but the usage of ‘Jimmy, Jimmy, Aaja, Aaja’ in the new Adam Sandler flick You Don’t Mess With The Zohan has Bappi up in his blubbery arms. He told the Hindustan Times

They didnâ??t take my permission. They have used an accordion piece from the original as a part of the climax song. But royalty has yet to come in.

The song is credited in the film but Bappi knows that that shiney new bling wont buy itself. Bappi’s no stranger to his songs being used without his cash register ringing.

I sued Truth Hurts for royalty (for ‘Kaliyon ka Chaman’) in 2003, which will be coming to me now. I will be looking at royalty from this Hollywood production as well. Be assured itâ??s in process.

As for ‘Jimmy, Jimmy’ though, Bappi knows its a top track.

It was No. 1 in Russia and thereâ??s a version in Chinese as well. The group MIA remixed it in 2007, when it hit the UK Top Ten, and it was No. 6 in Japan.

Someone tell Maya Arulpragasam she’s getting fat.
