India’s not been savvy to digital music stores. It doesn’t help that there isn’t an Indian iTunes, but if there was, it would most certainly (much like the iPhone 3G) be overpriced.
Enter the Blue Frog Music Store. The website allows customers to purchase digital downloads (and the option to buy CDs as well) of artists signed to the Blue Frog record label. Here’s how much it will cost you
Digital Downloads
Single track: Rs. 25
Album: Rs. 250Album CDs shipping
Rs. 299 inclusive of taxes.* (Free Shipping and Handling)*Exceptions may apply in some cases.
Why would you consider paying Rs.250 for an album download and not pay Rs.299 for the CD which, according to Blue Frog itself, has “eclectic, collectible cover art, a beautifully designed and written booklet with lyrics, stories, artwork and information”? Unless you’re very pressed for space, the album download price doesn’t make much sense. It doesn’t help that the cost of a single track is Rs.25, which is about Rs.15 too high for an MP3.
Plus, albums like Vivek Rajagopalan’s Moving Images have only nine tracks, making the sum total of individual tracks Rs.225.
Blue Frog is no stranger to overpriced service. The club recently upped the entry on Friday’s and Saturday’s to Rs.500 from Rs.300. But hey, if you don’t want to watch Shaa’ir + Func play live at Lower Parel on Friday night, at least you can spend the money wisely here.
