Head downstairs for the full review, Indiecision and Shirley’s handywork with the Sony.

This gig was a comeback of sorts for me; my first in over two months. Which meant that I was hoping there’d be some excitement, or at the very least, a tight band with a engaging act. Plus, given that Radius were playing a gig at Blue Frog as well, I thought I’d save myself two hundred bucks and watch them at Hard Rock instead.

Unfortunately, the sound at Hard Rock is nowhere near as good as the appletinis. Which would still be okay with an energetic live act. However, Radius were intent on defining the term ‘none of the above’. Their set began with a song called ‘Be Blind’ or ‘Moonshine’ or ‘Divine’ or something like that. The sound was very poor. The bass drum was not audible. Neither was one of the guitars. The vocals could barely be heard because the toms sounded like what you’d expect the word ‘toms’ to sound like.

Mostly, the band sounded like ’90s alternative, with frequent and noticeable errors. In the middle of the set we had the appearance of the MC, who also could not be heard. The words that were audible were “Mumbai” and “Yeah, yeah” and assorted laughter. He was entertaining, predominantly because of his pleasant and entertaining demeanor.

The band consists of a lead vocalist who has a Hindi music album, the guitarist from Metakix and two other dudes. The guitarist from Metakix got much love from one section of the crowd. He is obviously popular at Hard Rock Cafe.

If you’re going to catch them live tonight at Blue Frog, make sure you get your appletinis at Hard Rock.
