Smoke

There’s rarely an occassion when you can score free drinks at the Blue Frog. And when these occassions reveal their beautiful forms you grasp at them with joy. Especially if you can get a table too.

The launch of Blue Frog Soundlabs last night meant the press cred got you some lovely champagne, a table at the Frog and the chance to mix it with the celebs as you watched Smoke and Shaa’ir + Func perform their new songs.

Shaa'ir + Func

Full review, more pics and the Indiecision after the jump.

Kicking off after a few speeches explaining the launch of Blue Frog Records, Smoke took stage. The band comprises Ashutosh Phatak and Dhruv Ghanekar, co-owners of Blue Frog. “Convenient” you say? They’re great musicians in their own right, a fact vividly displayed in the guitar work of the one song they performed from their album Smoke Signals. The album will be officially launched tomorrow along with Shaa’ir + Func’s Light Tribe. S+F took stage after Smoke’s short but charming ‘set’. Again though, lyrics are always a problem with Indian bands.

S+F performed three songs from Light Tribe. The set was short and pockmarked with sound problems. The new material though is pretty good and a great evolution of the sound. Monica wasn’t as kitschy as she usually is.

Lots of celebrities attended including Ila Arun, Hard Kaur and Ila Arun’s husband.

Picked up the CDs on the way out. Full reviews after major spins.
