According to today’s Bombay Times, Def Leppard are “definitely going to happen in October”. The newspaper reveals what we’ve known for some time now, but also add that the “band’s management were not keen on playing just one date in Mumbai, apparently for monetary reasons.” That’s a strange thing to let out.
The article also features several glaring typos but what they hey, it’s the Bombay Times. Read the entire report after the break.
This is unedited from BT, just like BT.
We we had reported first, much to the delight of a lot of music fans in general and Def Leppard fans in particular, that the band was to come down in May for a concert at MMRDA and the Palace Grounds in Bangalore. Now, all that has changed. The concerts have been cancelled due to security reasons as elections are being held in Karnataka. â??We are waiting for the confirmed new date. But the concert is definitely going to happen in October,â? says Rohinton Poonawalla, of the organisation thatâ??s bringing down Def Leppard.
While Farhad Wadia, CEO of the same organisaion, adds, â??Thereâ??s really nothing we can do, as it poses a security hazard for them. The Karnataka police at that time will be stretched thin. This will be a large concert with around 15,000 to 20,000 people and they have some emergency powers that they promulgate during these times that they donâ??t allow gatherings of people for security reasons.â?
A statement from the bandâ??s website reads: â??We are sorry to report that due to unforseen circumstances of the Indian government suddenly calling May elections, the two Indian shows have been postponed. At this moment, the band is working on rescheduling these shows for dates in the fall. Our apologies to all our fans in India!â? The bandâ??s management were not keen on playing just one date in Mumbai, apparently, for monetary reasons. So, itâ??s over to October!Â
